We developed a difference interferometric slaboptical waveguide (SOWG) refractive index (RI) sensor for flow analysiswhich used a prism coupling method. The highest sensitivity of7.2x10-7 (deltaRI unit) was obtained with a glass SOWGfabricated with a radio frequency sputtering method for solution samplessuch as sucrose solutions and mixtures of ethanol and water; heresensitivity was defined as the DRI which gives the signal intensity of10-4 in absorbance unit. The sensitivity is almost the samelevel as that of a surface plasmon resonance sensor.
