Selective Ion Transfer Accompanied by a RespirationMimeticReaction at an Aqueous/Organic Solutions Interface

When an aqueous solution (W) containing flavin mononucleotide, pyruvic acidand O2 was put into contact with anitrobenzene solution (NB) containing Na + , K + , valinomycin and aferrocene derivative, CO2 wasevolved in W and Na +was transferred from NB to W, though K + remained in NB. The above-mentionedrespiration mimetic reaction process,accompanied by the selective ion transfer, was elucidated by referring tothe ion and electron transfer voltammograms atthe W/NB interface and by taking into account the energetics of thecoupling between the ion and electron transfers.
